Ear Drops
A little musical mood board from our ears to yours!
Between the Lines and Killer Instinct are collaborating with the new series Ear Drops. Here, you will find brief reviews on songs new and old, to give your playlists that extra personal touch.
The holidays bring up a lot of emotions for many of us, and it’s natural to be in our feelings. So, for this drop, we’re giving you a mood board. Literally! Let the vibes sink in through your headphones of choice and catch feelings!
Angry: Rage by Rico Nasty
You can’t give a musical ode to the angry emotion without citing Rico Nasty. And we’re not going to.
From the DMV, she’s been releasing music since high school. Rico Nasty released a project this year called Lethal giving us more of what we love about her: bold signature style, genre-defying sound, and a lot to be mad about. It’s hard to pick one Rico song to represent the emotion, as Rico truly is the artistic embodiment of angry. But we’ve decided to honor one her most notable projects with this track, and honor Rico’s own tribute to the emotion. Shout out to bad b*tches who are equal parts mad.

Horny: Come Thru by Lekan
Because our sexy playlists deserve to stay fresh too.
Released just days ago as of this Ear Drop from first-generation Nigerian-American from Ohio, Come Thru is a taste of Lekan’s upcoming 2026 EP, For All the Right Reasons. If this song is any indication, we have a lot to look forward to. His smooth vocals deliver direct, simple lyrics that communicate a sensuality worth craving.
Confident without being performative.
A promise you can hear in his voice that he’ll keep: “Just come through for it.”
A relationship cannot exist without trust, and this song by Leon Thomas and Kehlani explores radical honesty through the thick lens of love. The melody itself is simple, running pianos and acoustics like a traditional ballad, but the lyrics offer a plea for acceptance. Would you still want me walking around? They sing together, voices harmonizing as they both beg for forgiveness. If you’re ready to reunite rather than fight, this is the perfect song for getting back on track despite any mess!

Everybody hits that point in life where the things that once were working no longer are. Whether it’s a relationship, job, or family, we’ve all experienced the skies turning cloudy all of a sudden and, before the thunderstorm gives way, we’re struggling. Struggling to get through the days and struggling to find the end to the maze we call life. Those are the exact sentimental chords that Destin captures and evokes with this sample jazzy tune. “Please don’t ask me why I been sippin’ and smokin’,” and we surely won’t, as we listen and do not judge!
