Today’s live is the return of “Pastechi Pastiche,” my recurring live segment dedicated to my maternal homeland: Curaçao. Curaçao recently became the smallest nation to qualify for the world cup. The win has washed the island with pride: the blue wave.
It has also sparked a larger conversation about the role of diaspora in these moments of national pride. Most of the starting players were not born or raised on the island. Based on the convention, that would mean that none of the main players are Curaçaoan at all. Right?
